STRESS WAVES IN LAYERED ARBITRARY MEDIA SLAM CODE FREE-FIELD STUDY. VOLUME III. SLAM CODE (VERSION 3) AND VISCO MODIFICATIONS.

Abstract

This research program has been conducted with the basic aim of providing an automated capability for determining the response of hardened buried facilities subjected to a nuclear attack. The primary aim of the study has been to develop a large-scale finite element computer code for prediction of the free-field response of a general layered elastic site configuration accounting for both surface air overpressures and direct ground shock effects. The free-field code developed is termed SLAM code (Stress Waves in Layered Arbitrary Media). This document describes the latest version of the program, (Version 3) and the modifications of the program to permit investigation of problems with viscous damping. The modifications constitute a new version of the program called VISCO code.
