A CONCEPT FOR ALL WEATHER OPERATIONS IN RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION.

Abstract

Statements are presented of problems of residential construction in inclement weather and a summary of the state-of-the-art is given. The make-up of the residential construction industry is reviewed and a list of 23 tasks typical for constructing a residence is presented. Further, the physical and financial impact of weather on the construction process are explored. The use of air-supported shelters for construction shelters is examined. Conclusions are drawn that: (1) Use of air-supported shelters offer a better means of achieving all weather construction capability; (2) The concept is technically feasible; and (3) The concept is economically feasible. Recommendations for additional research are made.
