INFRARED MODULATION TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

The report covers research and development on infrared modulation techniques, specifically aimed at pulse modulation of the CO2 laser. The electro-optic effect in single crystals of high resistivity GaAs was used. The performance limits of modulators external to the laser cavity were determined. Experiments with modulator crystals inside the laser cavity indicated a reduction of approximately two orders of magnitude in the voltage required for modulation as compared to external modulation with the same crystal.
