IRON METABOLISM IN TUMOR-BEARERS. 2. COMPARISON WITH DAIKOKU RATS WITH STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS INFECTION,

Abstract

A marked decrease of serum iron and Hb values was observed on the 5th day in Staphylococcus infected Daikoku rats. A marked increase was also noted on the 5th day of liver non-hemin iron, particularly the increase of ferritin iron. Twenty four hours after intravenous injection of 59Fe-Globulinate, a much lower rate of 59Fe utilization in the red blood cells of infected Daikoku rats occurred. Twenty four hours after intravenous injection of 59Fe-labelled chondroitin iron sulphate, a marked increase (of iron) in the liver of the infected Daikoku rats was noted. (Author)
