FUEL CELL BATTERY, 60-WATT EXPLORATORY DEVELOPMENT MODEL.

Abstract

A conceptual design of a 60-watt fuel cell system was conceived, and single cells of a molded rubber configuration were constructed. Test results on a single cell and small stacks of cells revealed a deficiency in electrolyte and fuel distribution. The single cell and the ancillary system components were redesigned and seven complete units were manufactured. One of the units was selected at random and subjected to a Compliance Test, achieving an overall rating of 0.938. A packaging redesign in association with the introduction of superior electrodes and minor modifications in the stack was completed and an additional twelve units of this configuration were constructed and delivered in accordance with amendments to the original contract. A design for a plastic disposable hydrazine-hydrate logistic fuel container, compatible with field use and logistics requirements, was perfected and 224 filled containers were delivered in accordance with the contract.
