UNSTEADY LIFT AND HINGE MOMENT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AG(EH) MAIN FOIL AND STRUT ASSEMBLY,

Abstract

The unsteady lift and hinge moment characteristics of a 1/12-scale model of the inverted T AG(EH) main foil-strut assembly were determined for the foil oscillating in pitch in calm water and for the foil fixed in pitch heading into regular waves. In spite of the fact that the AG(EH) foil is cambered, tapered, and swept, its unsteady lift and hinge moment characteristics are in suprisingly close agreement with those predicted by two-dimensional theory if the horizontal component of the orbital wave velocity is included in the two-dimensional theory.
