INTERACTION OF GASES WITH METAL SURFACES (INTERAKCE PLYNU S POVRCHY KOVU),

Abstract

Contact between the molecules of a gas and a metal surface can result either in a rebound of the gas molecule or in its adsorption on the metal surface. The factors influencing this mechanism are the geometry of the molecules and the relationship between the electronic structure of the molecules. A table showing activities of certain metals towards some gases is shown. The mechanism of the adsorption is discussed and equations used for the derivation of the accommodation coefficients of the gases on metal surfaces are presented. Determination of the coefficient of adhesion is described. Experimental methods for the evaluation of the adsorption coefficient are evaluated. The coefficient of the probability of gas adhesion is discussed. Mutual relationship between the coefficients that were discussed are evaluated. (Author)
