HIGH EFFICIENCY OCTAVE BANDWIDTH TRAVELING-WAVE TUBE.

Abstract

Experiments were initiated to analyze the effect of anisotropic shield loading on the dispersion of helices. This type of helix loading shows promise for the design of large bandwidth traveling-wave tubes with higher efficiency. A helix tester for S-Band has been designed and built to evaluate these effects with cold measurements. A new ceramic material, chemical vapor deposited (CVD) Boron Nitride, is being used for the helix support. This material is expected to provide superior electronic properties in tubes and it is therefore being evaluated. The gun and solenoid focusing design for experimental tubes is in progress. (Author)
