FILM ANNOTATION STUDY.

Abstract

The necessity for a rapid film annotation capability is discussed and the operational requirements for automatic and semiautomatic film titlers are summarized. For high-speed, fully automatic, variable data film annotation, electro-optical printing on a locally resensitized portion of the film appears suitable. For medium speed, semiautomatic, fixed-message film annotation, a multiple-line-at-a-time mechanical printer, using matte surface embossed plastic plates, prepared on a keyboard operated device, and a water-based multicomponent dye imbibition ink is proposed as a replacement for the existing gold foil or opaque ribbon - heat- and/or pressure-type film titlers.
