1 KW KU-BAND PULSED COAXIAL MAGNETRON.

Abstract

The program involved the design, development, and fabrication of a 1 kw, tunable, Ku-band, pulsed coaxial magnetron for use in the AN/PPS-5 radar set. A major portion of the program was devoted to solving the problems associated with fabricating the small-sized vane resonator system. Further effort was expended to satisfy the extremely tight thermally induced frequency changes required for good system performance. Three tubes were constructed which satisfied all specification operating parameters. Preliminary life testing indicated that tube life in excess of 1,000 hours was attainable. No environmental testing was performed to determine the environmental reliability of the final design; however, wherever possible, features were included in the design to insure this capability.
