NEGATIVE IONS FROM ALKALI HALIDES AND ELECTRON AFFINITIES OF THE ALKALI METALS AND ALKALI HALIDES,

Abstract

Negative ions formed by electron resonance capture in alkali halide vapors were investigated mass spectrometrically. Ions detected were: M(-), X(-), MX(-), and M2X(-) (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs; X = F, Cl, Br, I). From measured appearance potentials and known dissociated energies, lower limits are given for the electron affinities of the alkali metals and the alkali halides. (Author)
