Abstract

This is a description of what should be included in an introductory class for military trainees who are being familiarized with the Kalashnikov Assault Rifle. The article covers the nomenclature and functioning of the main parts of the weapon and lists the four types of bullets used in the AK. There is a lengthy but elementary discussion of the principles and operation of automatic firing and a brief resume of the characteristics of the rifle. The article includes a detailed diagram of the AK with a list of 52 parts. (Author)
