IMMUNOGENIC PROPERTIES OF ADSORBED DIPHTHERIA TOXOIDS PREPARED FROM PURIFIED AND CONCENTRATED TOXINS,

Abstract

The Mechnikov Institute of Vaccines and Sera Production in Moscow developed a detoxicated diphtheriatoxoid from purified and concentrated toxins. The toxoid is adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide. This preparation contained 60 - 65 Lf per ml, with a specific activity of 500 - 12,800 Lf per 1 mg of total nitrogen. The immunogenic properties of the new diphtheria toxoid were tested on guinea-pigs and compared with similar properties of other commercial diphtheria toxoids. The new toxoid was found equal in immunizing value to existing commercial products, and it preserved its strength even after a year's storage. Detailed charts and several tables display the experimental results. (Author)
