CONTENT OF AMINO ACIDS, FATTY ACIDS AND SOME GLYCIDES IN THE FUNGUS STACHYBOTRYS ALTERNANS

Abstract

The amino acid, fatty acid, and glycide content of the mycelium of Stachybotrys alternans was determined, and, for purposes of comparison, of some strains of Aspergillus and Fusarium as well. The hydrolysates contained 18 to 22 various amino acids, 5 to 11 sugars, 3 to 4 saturated and 1 to 5 unsaturated fatty acids. In the case of Stachybotrys alternans the individual strains exhibited small differences in the composition with respect to these substances. Differences in the occurrence of amino acids and fatty acids were found in some strains of Stachybotrys alternans even after long-lasting passages through solid Czapek-Dox substrate. These changes, however, were not related to toxin production.
