Research on the Electrochemical Oxidation of Hexane and Its Isomers.

Abstract

The work is concerned with the elucidation of the complex sequence of reactions involved in the anodic oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons. An understanding of these reactions seems likely to be required for the economic utilization of low temperature hydrocarbon fuel cells. The work has been carried out with concentrated (80 w %)H3PO4 at 130C, using platinum electrodes. The reactions of CH4, C3H8, and n-C6H14 on smooth and platinized Pt were investigated, with emphasis on the characterization of the adsorbed layers and on their reactions. (Author)
