An Apparatus for Simultaneous Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis.
Abstract
An apparatus has been constructed which provides for the simultaneous collection of differential thermal and thermogravimetric data on a single sample. Poor correlation of results from these methods had previously been a problem when individual determinations were made. This was primarily due to differences in sample size, physical configuration, and heating rates. The instrument described minimizes these differences and provides good correlation of data obtained. Construction and operation of the instrument is presented. The advantages and disadvantages of the instrument are discussed and compared with nonsimultaneous techniques. Application of the instrument to the analysis of organic and inorganic materials is presented. (Author)
