Application of Photochromic and Thermochromic Compounds for Monitoring Cure Process in Resin Matrix Systems.

Abstract

The feasibility of incorporation of photochromic and thermochromic compounds in addition to other dyes in reinforced plastics as a means of monitoring the cure process in reinforced plastic matrix materials was established. These compounds, when incorporated in a resin matrix, show changes in color, absorbance, transmittance, or reflectance, dependent upon the time and temperatures history of the cure cycle. The resins investigated were a heat cured epoxy system, and an asbestos filled phenolic compound. (Author, modified-PL).
