Model SM-65E, Deflection Characteristics and Stress Distribution in the Thrust Structure and Fuel Tank, 'E' Missile.

Abstract

The deflections at arbitrary points on the outer shell of the 'E' Series Missiles, from station 960 to 1206.5 due to unit loads applied at specified points, are required to determine spring constants for launch studies. The report presents the calculation of the deflections as well as the development of the method of analysis. The deflections are calculated on the basis of an elastic structure subject to the laws of minimum strain energy. As a by-product of the deflection analysis, the stresses in the outer shell for various unit loads are obtained. The results of the analysis presented in this report are based on a structural configuration which has not been completely defined and therefore are to be considered as preliminary information.
