Investigation of the Effective Thrust Vectors of a Retro-Rocket Installation.

Abstract

This report describes tests performed to determine the effective thrust vector for several scale retro-rocket configurations at the maximum attainable pressure altitude in the Thermodynamics Laboratories' altitude facility (about 170,000 ft.), to determine static pressure profiles on adjacent missile surfaces resulting from retro-rocket exhaust impingement, and to determine external side loads exerted on the missile skin and pod surfaces resulting from rocket exhaust impingement from the exhaust of a single, or an adjacent pair of retro-rockets.
