Centaur Upper Tank Purge Test,

Abstract

This report describes tests conducted in order to establish a method of purging the Centaur Fuel Tank of undesired gases, i.e., oxygen and nitrogen, prior to tanking with liquid hydrogen. Also, a method of purging hydrogen vapors at the conclusion of a static detanking was investigated. This test was made to investigate the use of helium gas to perform the above requirements.
