Production of the Phenyl Ether of Cellulose with a Higher Degree of Substitution,

Abstract

The phenyl ether of cellulose with gamma = 75 was produced, and it was demonstrated that under the conditions used only the primary alcohol groups in the 6-position are etherified. The synthesis of highly substituted phenyl ethers of cellulose was carried out in two ways: (a) by tosylation of phenyl cellulose with gamma = 75, followed by reaction of the phenyltosyl ether of cellulose obtained with a solution of sodium phenylate; (b) by the production of highly substituted tosylcellulose (gamma = 200) and its reaction with a sodium phenylate solution according to the method proposed.
