Remote Manipulators and Mass Transfer Study.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to determine the applicability of manipulator systems to extravehicular construction and maintenance tasks from manned space vehicles, to define problem areas, and to begin conceptual design studies for selected systems. This report provides a summary and a review of pertinent manipulator technology, as assessment of space task capabilities, preliminary specifications and design for a general purpose manipulator, and a program plan for developing operational capability within a 10-year period.
