Environmental Tests of the SMU-75/A Special Weapon Simulator.

Abstract

The SMU-75/A, a special weapons simulator for the SUU-20/A Bomb Rocket Dispenser, was subjected to shock, vibration, high temperature, low temperature, and humidity environments to evaluate its structural and electrical integrity. There were no visible mechanical failures or detectable electrical degradations during the shock, high temperature, or low temperature tests. A capacitor lead failed during the Z (vertical) axis vibration test. When the capacitor was replaced, the SMU-75/A was subjected to the entire vibration testing sequence without further visible damage. The relay driver circuits failed during the 10-day humidity test because of potting material breakdown. (Author)
