Solid State Indicator.

Abstract

The feasibility of a discrete-element electroluminescent display, the Solid State Indicator, is explored for use as a Plan Position Indicator with a field radar set. Initial studies are reported which examine the problems in choosing optimum discrete lamp shapes for the display of continuously moving targets in a rho-theta system. A variety of arithmetic techniques for combining sweep data for low resolution display are described with arithmetic averaging selected on the basis of performance and cost. Finally, a variety of system approaches are explored with various alternatives for storage, signal analysis and lamp drive. (Author)
