MODEP Modified DEPLOY Program Volume I.

Abstract

A modified version of the DEPLOY computer program is described. DEPLOY was originally conceived to evaluate the velocity increments and propellant requirements for PBV's (post boost vehicles) carrying a number of objects which are deployed to various target geometries. Since MODEP lacks some of the capabilities of the DEPLOY program, such as a sizing option, an active deployment option, and a deployed objects pattern analysis option, MODEP is intended to supplement rather than replace the DEPLOY program. The capabilities not found in the DEPLOY program but contained in MODEP are the determination of the time intervals and ACS propellant requirements for the deployment of several objects from a PBV, a detailed description of the backaway maneuver, and orientation to angles other than zero angle of attack at reentry. In order to provide the capability of determining the time intervals and ACS propellant requirements, it was necessary to determine the mass properties of the system and to simulate the ACS engines. MODEP was written for the IBM 360 computer. The calculation procedure, program logic flow charts, input procedures, sample output data, and a program listing are provided. (Author)
