Self-Healing Protective Coatings.

Abstract

Laboratory research was conducted on the development of protective (self-healing) coatings on magnesium alloys. Gaseous diffusion, reactive solutions, and electrochemical methods of application were investigated. The first two methods were unsuccessful; however, electrochemical methods employing a bifluoride, meta-vanadate solution yielded coatings of a highly protective nature on magnesium and its alloys.
