Signal Processing Studies and Analysis. Volume III. The Improvement of Electromagnetic Inverse Scattering Approximations.

Abstract

The electromagnetic direct scattering problem, although difficult for all but the most simply shaped scatterers, is, at least in principle, always amenable to exact solutions. Such is not the case with the electromagnetic inverse scattering problem, to which there exists no exact solutions. To date, only a small number of approximations to several special cases exist. It is shown in this paper that given an exact solution to (any class of special cases of) the direct scattering problem, and an approximation to (the same class of special cases of) the inverse scattering problem, the inverse scattering approximation can be improved to any desired degree of accuracy (consistant with the 'input' data).
