The Mechanism of the Tribo Effect III: The Effect of the Humidity of the Air.

Abstract

The effect of humidity of the air upon the electrification in friction of glass has been investigated. The results show that water is instrumental in the electrification. Assuming that electrification is the result of electrochemical oxidation-reduction reactions, the empirical formulae follow from the theory of hydrogen absorption by metals.
