Rapid Site Preparation Techniques for VTOL Aircraft. Part II. Optimization of Materials and Equipment.

Abstract

Using chlorinated polyester resin and prefabricated fiber glass reinforcement, an improved application system for preparing remote landing and takeoff sites for VTOL aircraft was successfully demonstrated. The equipment prepared 6-foot wide strips of about one-pound-per-square-foot at a rate of 50 lineal feet per minute. Pad materials were of two types: one, a low temperature system for VTOL pads where short-term temperatures will not exceed 800F, and the second, a high temperature system for VTOL pads where short-term temperatures will not exceed 3000F. Additional site design data for site size and density were developed. (Author)
