Integrated Engineering and Service Test of Filter/Separator, Lightweight, 350-GPM Temperate Climate and Service Test (Desert) of Filter/Separator, Lightweight, 350-GPM.
Abstract
An Integrated Engineering and Service Test of Filter/Separator, Lightweight, 350-gpm was conducted during the period December 1966 - October 1968 to determine the technical performance and safety characteristics of the test item and its associated tools and test equipment as described in the QMR and as indicated by the particular design and to determine the suitability of the test item and its maintenance package for use by the Army under temperate and hot-dry (desert) climatic conditions. It was concluded that: the filter/separator meets the requirements of the SDR; the draft technical manual is adequate but should incorporate changes listed in Appendix IV-A; maintenance features are simple and easily compatible with TOE organizational capabilities; no additional training or new skill for MOS-qualified maintenance or operator personnel is required; safety provisions and capability to perform safely are confirmed with minor exceptions listed in paragraph 1.4b(2) and (3); the test item is capable of decontaminating military fuels to the cleanliness standards of MIL-F-8901A. It is recommended that: the 350-gpm lightweight filter/separator be considered suitable for use by the Army under intermediate climatic conditions and under desert conditions, subject to successful completion of the desert engineering test; shortcomings listed in Appendix III be corrected to the extent that is feasible; and the changes listed in Appendix IV-A be incorporated in the draft technical manual.
