Study of a 100-Watt Ku-Band Traveling Wave Tube.

Abstract

The development of a 100-watt, cw, PPM-focused, 12 to 18 GHz traveling wave tube is described. The design of the tube is described in detail. A helix, glazed to beryllia support rods, is used to obtain the 12-18 GHz bandwidth and 100-watt cw output power. Radially magnetized magnets are used for the PPM focusing structure. Two packaged versions of the tube (with air or heat-sink cooling) were developed. Performance data are presented on several tubes constructed during the development program. These data indicate the successful achievement of the original requirements. Recommendations are made for future work. (Author)
