Astronomic Determination of Azimuth and Position with Seconds-Theodolites in Practice (Ueber die Praxis von Astronomischen Azimut- und Ortsbestimmungen mit Sekundentheodoliten),

Abstract

The report is intended to furnish the man in the field pointers in carrying out survey work for the establishment of base lines. Forms for computer calculation were developed which facilitate the execution and calculation of astronomic determination of azimuth. In order to find out whether it is possible through astronomic position finding with seconds-theodolites to determine in relatively simple manner the plumb-line deflection necessary for the transformation of astronomic azimuth into geodetic azimuth and/or bearings, we carried out in addition determination of longitude and latitude with a seconds-theodolite. In conclusion, we discuss the question to what extent astronomically determined lines may be valid as base lines for gyrocompass. (Author)
