Icebreaker Propulsion System Simulation - Phase I Simulation of USCGC GLACIER,

Abstract

This report discusses a digital computer dynamic simulation program for a vessel with a diesel-electric propulsion system. The mathematical formulation of the problem is fully developed and the computer program used to solve the equations is presented. A comparison of the computer simulation predictions of key variables during maneuvers of the USCGC GLACIER and actual oscillograph recordings of these same variables is presented. The correlation between predicted and measured values is good and it is concluded that the simulation program will be an effective tooling in analyzing the performance of new icebreaker designs.
