Savonius Rotor for Detection.

Abstract

This final report represents a summary of work, the objectives of which were a study of the dynamic characteristics and detection potential of the Savonius Rotor at different wind speeds. Preliminary work involved wind tunnel tests to determine the dynamic characteristics of various rotor configurations. A test rotor was subsequently selected and subjected to challenge tests with droplets and vapors. The droplet and vapor collection characteristics of the Savonius Rotor were compared with collections found on static cylinders exposed simultaneously. Results of the tests were generally consistent, showing that over the range of wind velocities and challenge concentrations used, the area deposition on the Savonius Rotor was comparable to that found on static cylinders the same size.
