Optical Investigations of Spark Discharges,

Abstract

Spark discharges in the 32,000 amp range and their time shift were examined with respect to the initial capacitor voltage, capacitance and pressure. The helium-filled (9.6 torr) electrode gap of the discharge device (spark chamber) was 11.0 mm. A condensor battery (8 to 113 microfarads) chargeable with voltages in the range of 0.5 to 3.0 kv was used as an energy source. The discharges in most instances were triggered by a specially-designed high-voltage switch. The experiments were recorded on an assembly which included a multiplier, an amplifier, a pulse-oscillograph and a camera. (Author)
