Joining of Superalloy Foils for Hypersonic Vehicles.

Abstract

The article presents a review of joining techniques for candidate foil gage superalloys for use as hypersonic vehicle honeycomb heat shields. Four superalloys, Inconel 625, L605, TD Nickel, and TD Nickel/chromium, were selected; two joining methods, brazing and either TIG welding or diffusion bonding, were evaluated for each of these four superalloys. In the brazed joint evaluations, four braze alloys were initially selected for each superalloy and were reduced to one braze alloy per superalloy by simulated exposure tests. (Author)
