Nitroso Rubber Expulsion Bladders for Nitrogen Tetroxide Application.

Abstract

Carboxy Nitroso Rubber (CNR) metal foil (ultrasonically welded aluminum foil and electroformed gold) and fiberglass cloth reinforced CNR were characterized for expulsion bladder application. Mechanical properties before and after N2O4 exposure, propellant and gas permeation, and bladder fabrication methods were studied. Subscale 6 and 12-1/2 inch all rubber and laminate bladders were fabricated by both compression molding and spraying techniques. Subscale (6-inch diameter) laminate bladders were fabricated with ultrasonically welded aluminum foil and electroformed gold. Both metals were subsequently coated with sprayed CNR. The dynamic testing of 12-1/2 inch diameter spherical and 12-1/2 x 37-1/2 inch elongated bladders is discussed. (Author)
