Radiation Effects on Space Power Subsystems (Handbook). Volume 2. Part 1

Abstract

The report provides data and guide lines which will enable circuit designers to assess and design for the effects of radiation on space power subsystems. Radiation effects on resistors, capacitors, bipolar transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, MOSFET's, SCR's and other electronic components are included. In addition, a section on catastrophic failure in semiconductors dealing with latch-up and burn-out is presented. Radiation effects on plastic and elastomeric materials commonly used in space systems are given. Various system and circuit hardening concepts for the electronic circuit designer are presented.
