Design Manual for Selected SCR Static Inverters. Volume I. Comparison and Description of Inverters,

Abstract

This design manual, prepared in two volumes, is intended to convey to the reader a thorough knowledge of the operating principles and design considerations involved in a selected group of SCR Static Inverters which were studied under Navy Department BuShips Contract Number NObs-86900. Volume 1 provides general and detailed descriptions of the Pre-regulated McMurray-Bedford, the Pulse-width Modulated Bridge, the Synthesized Waveform, the 3 SCR, the High Frequency, and the Subharmonic Control Inverters. The descriptions are presented in detail for the single-phase versions of each type of inverter. Supplementary information is also presented to allow the reader to extend the designs to either two-channel (Scott-connected) or three-channel three-phase systems. Volume 1 also presents a design comparison and a parametric comparison between all the inverter approaches except the high frequency and the subharmonic control designs. An additional section, Section 4.14, discusses reversible operation of static inverters and presents pertinent descriptive and design information for an open-loop reversible pulse-width modulated bridge inverter. The Appendices of Volume 1 include an analysis of the Scott-T connection, a discussion of AC output filters, the electrical specification which was used as a design guide for the inverter comparisons, and a bibliography.
