Analysis of Switching Circuit Reliability,

Abstract

A new definition of computer switching-circuit reliability based on information theory concepts is proposed. The definition can be used to evaluate the reliability of binary multioutput circuits, circuits performing multivalent logical functions, and continuously operating circuits. The reliability of serial and parallel connections of two networks is defined, and simplified formulas are given which are valid for high component-circuit reliability. A comparison is made between results arrived at by using the new and conventional definitions. It was found that results differed little in the case of equal probability output letters. (Author)
