On the Connection Between Hyaline and Amyloid Degeneration in the Spleen

Abstract

If both substances are found at the same time, if this form of degeneration is found in one case and an identical case reveals another form, it is permissible to deduce the close relationship of these processes. However, no proof is established thereby of the theory that one substance represents the necessary preceding stage of the other. This proof can be submitted only when it becomes possible to generate amyloid degeneration experimentally; only then shall one be able to determine the preceding tissual changes with greater certainty than has been possible by the comparison and investigation of historic cases.
