Diagnostic Infectious Specimen Containers Leak-Tested by High Velocity Impact,

Abstract

Ten replicates of each of three package types were tested. Each test tube in all packages contained 10 ml of 0.2% safranin dye. With one possible exception, none of the packages leaked through the outer container following impact on concrete at average velocities of 130 to 133 feet per second (89 to 90 miles per hour). Thus, the mailing tubes more than met the requirements for no leakage under conditions ordinarily incident to transportation handling. (Author)
