Approximate Calculation Methods for Gas Lubricated Journal Bearings,

Abstract

The directions and magnitudes of the errors introduced in the various approximate methods of solving the nonlinear pressure differential equation for gas-lubricated journal bearings (Harrison piecewise linearization of lubricant-thickness variation; Katto-Soda and Ausman methods of linearizing the equation by series expansion using velocity, reciprocal velocity and eccentricity as small parameters, and others) are examined.
