Evaluation of Cesium Vapor Magnetometer (CVM).

Abstract

The CVM mine detector was evaluated in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 10 December to 25 December 1968. The CVM consists of a sensor and staff assembly, audio readout, rechargeable battery pack, and accessories. The operation of the system is based upon the use of a sensor that responds to very small disturbances in the EMFI caused by the presence of ferrous objects or by the disturbance and/or removal of soil containing minute quantities of ferrous materials. Results of the evaluation have shown that in its present configuration, the CVM is not suitable for use in RVN but that the concept of the CVM for detecting mines is valid and should be exploited.
