Structural Analysis of a Test-Weight Minuteman (Wing I) Second-Stage Aft Closure for Project Nomad.

Abstract

The stress analysis described in this report was conducted to verify the structural compatibility of a modified NOMAD aft closure with the Wing I, Second-Stage Minuteman Motor. The aft closure was originally designed to adapt the Wing 2 Minuteman Second-Stage Motor as a test vehicle for the low-cost nozzles fabricated and tested by the AFRPL under project NOMAD. In addition to its primary purpose of reporting the stress analysis results, this report also is intended to serve as instructional material to document the use of the 'System of Free Bodies' computer program for future reference (primarily within the NOMAD project).
