Advanced Concepts of Microwave Power Generation and Control in Solids.

Abstract

This research program is concerned with new techniques for microwave signal generation. The emphasis of the investigation is on studies of active microwave effects in bulk semiconductors and on physical electronic phenomena. Specifically the study areas include the domain and Limited Space charge Accumulation (LSA) modes of Gunn effect, Impact Avalanche and Transit Time (IMPATT) diodes, microwave semiconductor materials and fundamentals, and a special study dealing with field emission of electrons from semiconductors into a vacuum. This research is being undertaken to further the understanding of the physical mechanisms and processes which are involved and to obtain information of use in the design of improved microwave sources.
