Improved CdTe Solar Cell and Array Environmental Effects Investigation.

Abstract

Several alternative photovoltaic junctions were examined during the quarter. Included were homojunctions formed both by diffusion and by a spraying technique and two kinds of Schottky barriers. Of these, the most successful has been the gold: CdTe barriers which have exhibited currents equal to those of our standard Cu2Te: CdTe heterojunction and substantial improvements in output voltage. Stability tests to date indicate that there are two types of Cu2Te: CdTe junction degradation. One is due to heat and the other type is caused by air or components of air. Several new anti-reflection coatings were examined; among the most promising is Parylene-C. (Author)
