Tetrahedron Flow Beam Geometry for Microwave Tubes.

Abstract

The report discusses the study and evaluation of the tetrahedron beam geometry for application in microwave tubes: the plane of adjacent focii are orthogonal to one another allowing correction of spherical aberration, minimizing high frequency cross-modulation allowing chromatic abberation correction of the magnetic focusing by a compensating velocity cross-modulation obtained in curved control gaps. A demountable three cavity klystron of this kind has been designed and partially constructed. Tuning, coupling and loading mechanisms as well as cavities drift tubes and quadrupoles are described and illustrated. (Author)
