National Construction of Spectrometers for Investigating Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR),

Abstract

In a brief introductory section the author discusses the fundamental notions of paramagnetic radio-spectroscopy (electronic and nuclear), presenting a few of the basic mathematical expressions involved in the calculation of paramagnetic resonance. The operational principle of EPR spectrometers and the possible application of these instruments in research and production quality control operations are briefly reviewed. The design and construction of various types of spectrometers (conventional, flow type, modulation type, compensation type) are described, and the more important specifications and parameters which determine the quality of the instrument, such as sensitivity and resolution, are analyzed. On the basis of a comparative table containing the specifications of nine spectrometers and estimate is made of the relative characteristics of Polish and foreign spectrometers presently available on the world market.
