A Study of the Potential Impact on Employment of Reduced Defense Spending for Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This thesis presents a study of the unemployment problems, and how to reduce their impact, should a decrease in defense spending occur as a result of a deescalation of military hostilities in Southeast Asia. The authors have presented a summarization study of defense spending and defense generated employment during the escalation period of the war. Conclusions and estimates presented in the thesis were based on a hypothetical 20 billion dollar reduction in defense spending spread over a period of 18 months. Deescalation policies to offset the resulting unemployment problems and recommended solutions to these problems were included in the study. (Author)
